Dr Michael Ryan After graduation from UC Berkeley, he and his wife, Laura, moved to Telluride, Colorado, to open a restaurant and bar and "ski every day."  After its sale  in 1989 he and his family moved to Fort Collins where he attended CSUVeterinarySchool.  They returned to California and moved to Truckee in 1987 with their children, Nicole and Shaughnessey.  He purchased Sierra Pet Clinic from Dr Collinson when it was a small vaccination clinic on Donner Pass Road.  He subsequently moved it to the 7-11 shopping center where Taco Jalisco is now.  In 1993 he opened the present clinic on the TruckeeRiver at 10411 River Park Place.  He enjoys all types of veterinary medicine and surgery and particularly enjoys Truckee and its community.  An avid skier, cross country skier and hiker, he also loves working in his yard at home.

Dr. Heather Simon came to Sierra Pet clinic in 2007. She grew up in Los Angeles where her family still lives. She attended The University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. After spending her junior year at the London School of Economics, she returned to U of M and graduated with a BA in Economics. The mountain life attracted her so she moved to Vail for 1 year after which she was accepted into the U of Wisconsin law school. She became an attorney after graduation with a specialty in criminal defense. While she was practicing law, her dog, Moby, developed cancer. She spent every day for 4 weeks at the veterinary hospital at U of W while Moby underwent radiation therapy. This sparked her interest in veterinary medicine so she returned to school part time, took her undergrad science courses and was accepted to the U of W from which she graduated with a veterinary medicine degree in 2005. During her summers while she attended veterinary school she worked in Aspen, Jackson Hole, and Sun Valley at veterinary clinics.    Armed with her veterinary degree, she did an internship at the LoomisBasinVeterinaryHospital in Loomis, CA, in small animal medicine and surgery in 2006. Her love of the mountains brought her to Truckee. She is an avid mountain biker, skier, music lover and of course animal lover. Her new avocation has taught her an enjoyment of soft tissue surgery and internal medicine.

Dr. Suzanne Brough, a native of New Orleans, grew up
with every species of animal in her back yard (dogs, cats, birds, horses,
chickens, rabbits, hamsters). She attended
LouisianaStateUniversity

in
Baton Rouge
where she received a B.S. in animal/dairy science. After graduation she continued her education at LSU's veterinary school
and graduated in 2004. The lure of the west coast caused her move out to
San Francisco after graduation. Before she arrived at Sierra Pet Clinic in 2008, she had been practicing on the San Francisco peninsula where she gained much knowledge of small animal medicine and surgery.  Her special interests include surgery and oncology. She was drawn to the mountain life by a love of all that our area offers: sunshine, hiking, mountain biking, snowboarding, the beaches, and being near the Lake.   She resides in InclineVillage with her boyfriend, Carey, and her mutt, Kayla.
